Comme des Garcons Floriental Eau de Parfum

product-9214338

I received this small sample vial in the mail.Commes des garcon often offer free samples of their new fragrances and provided you can navigate their very complicated and far too clever for its own good website, you do eventually get to a section where you apply for the free sample.
I often request samples and it makes a lovely surprise when they arrive and I get to try things I certainly wouldn’t risk buying sight or smell unseen or unsmelled!

~~~~~~ PACKAGING ~~~~~~~
The package mine came in was a brown plastic outer envelope with a small glass bottle mini spray. I love these small sample sizes to try new smells and also I take them on holiday as they are so light and then dump them when I have used them. On the side of the bottle is the name of the scent and in smaller type the brand name, neither are very special, just plain simple text.
This is sold in the usual Commes des Garcon flacon flask style bottle and this one is brown. It kind of looks rounded and sort of flat stone shaped or a bit like a small hipflask with rounded corners. There is the brand and scent name in a light coloured text and the whole thing is simple and very understated. I actually quite like the bottle style with its smooth rounded look as it is quite different from the usual perfume bottle style.
~~~ COMME DES GARCONS ~~~

This is a brand I have tried several of their perfumes from and I do like their unisex scents. Some are more unisex than others and I particularly like earthy scents .
The name of the brand kind of states what they are aiming for , the unisex approach not only for their scents but also the clothes too. This is a Parisian based fashion brand owned by a Japanese designer, Rei Kawkubo.

This company has 68 different fragrances, the first was created in 1994 and the fragrances are created in collaboration with a large number of perfumiers not just one or two which I found unusual. Floriental was launched in 2015 so it is a reasonably new one. Some of their perfumes are unisex while others are specifically aimed at either men or women. This is one of the unisex ones.

~~~~~~~ WHAT THEY SAY ~~~~~~~
“Floriental is a disrupted floral fragrance that challenges the traditions of perfumery to reimagine a flower that has no scent.
A creative collision that blurs the lines between the floral and the oriental to create somdownload (2)ething completely new.
An odourless flower is given life, a virtual scent imagined: enigmatic, contrasted, intense.”
~~~~~~ THE NOTES ~~~~~

Interestingly the notes are all blended so no top , middle and base notes. The notes in this are :
Labdanum, lavish sandalwood, vetiver, incense, pink pepper and plum liqueur

~~~~~~~~ MY THOUGHTS AND EXPERIENCE ~~~~~~~
This is a much deeper and sweeter scent than some of Commes des garcons perfumes. It is earthy and certainly has that oriental aroma as the sandalwood comes through strongly with a hint of a rubbery aroma.
It is a strong perfume and lasts well. The scent doesn’t change much over time , It did start sweetly plummy but within fifteen minutes or so the more spicy peppery notes come through and the sandalwood is quite obvious too.it just settles and gently becomes more subtle. This is no bad thing as the scent is intense so you need only a very small spray to be able to enjoy the scent for some hours. I would suggest that you need to be a bit careful not to overdo this one as it is intense.
I tried spraying small amount on my arms and adding some natural oil to blend with it and that worked really well to spread the scent and make it less intense in one spot.
I feel this might be a bit too much for a summer scent and would be best in winter as it would still carry through winter clothes .It lasts reasonably well on me and I can still smell it faintly about four hours after I put it on.
I find it quite unusual and very much reminds me of incense burning in temples . Although I do like it I am not sure I would buy it as it is a bit intense for me. I would say this would be best worn in the evening rather than the day as those around you in the office might find it a bit much.
In my opinion is probably not for the girly feminine sorts of women. It is not very feminine it is definitely a Middle eastern/Asian spicy sort of smell..
~~~~~~~ WOULD I BUY THIS AGAIN? ~~~~~

I do quite like it but it is not a cheap perfume at about £71 for 50ml on Amazon and samples selling on Ebay for about £3.50 for 1ml or 2ml bottles. I can’t say I would pay that sort of money for this as it isn’t special enough for that sort of money.
I do like the woody sandalwood and dry cedarwood and incense smell but in small doses.
As most people know your skin is the final ingredient in any perfume and that effects how different scents develop. Always try your perfumes first, if you can, before making a big expensive purchase. These samples are a great way to try them.
This little bottle was about 2ml and gave me about two or three days use I would say and I am so thrilled I got it as a free sample after seeing the prices on Ebay for the same little bottles.

Comme Des Garcons – Blue Encens

I really love perfumes and even better I love getting free perfumes to test. I get these through freebie sites, beauty sites and by being a bit cheeky in Department stores and asking for them. My sample drawer never has less than around thirty vials and sachets in there. Once I have tested them and written reviews they go into a special bag and these are the ones that I take on holiday as I can throw them away after using them and have different smells to enjoy on holiday.

I have tried a number of Comme des Garcons EDP scents over the years and despite the fact they are aimed at males rather than females I find them quite unisex in their appeal. They are definitely not ones to avoid for the ladies if you like slightly woodier and spicier fragrances.
I was very surprised to discover that, despite its name Comme des Garcons, this is actually a is a Japanese fashion label based in Tokyo and also in the prestigious Place Vendôme in Paris. I would never have guessed that from the name.

Originally a fashion house Comme des Garcons only released its first fragrance, Comme des Garçons, in 1994.
All their scents are unusual and different using ingredients and scents often not used in other perfumes.

Like their scents Comme des Garcons package their products in unusual ways. This comes in a flacon which is blue starting dark at the top and fading to very pale at the base. The outer box is the same colour and the name is in black and the effect is quite minimalist. The bottle I described as a flacon and looks a bit like a mini hip flask.

The packaging is very much a unisex look and not specifically male or female at all.

“A bold fusion of mystical incense and crushed Artemisia contrasted with blazing
frozen spices. “
blue encens
“A clash of luxurious warmth and searing coolness. Fresh, non-fresh. Cool yet warm. Blue takes over to reveal the contradictory coolness of three emblematic warm notes: incense, cedarwood, sandalwood. The result is a cool blue invasion, an unexpected blend of wood, spice and incense artfully combined to reveal refreshingly warm layers.”

Unusually for a perfume this doesn’t have top,middle and base notes. I know many Middle Eastern perfumes work this way and stay true to the original scent throughout so was interested to see if this was the same.
The notes in this according to the company are : aromatic artemisia, frozen spices (Indian cardamom, black pepper, cinnamon), mystical incense, mineral crystal amber.
I have no idea what frozen spices do as opposed to fresh or dried but this is how they are described on the company website.
The scent was launched as part of the ‘Blue’ range in 2013 and the fragrance was created by perfumer Evelyne Boulanger.

(*(*(*(**** MY VIEWS *****)*)*)*)

Comme des Garcons launched three different ‘Blue’ perfumes in 2013, this one, Blue Sental and Blue Cedrat. I have tried them all and may well review them at some stage in the future.

These ‘Blue’ perfumes were created “to accentuate radical contradiction providing a mixture of luxurious warmth and sea freshness. Olfactory evocation of the fascinating paradox presents the blue color as timeless and very intense in three different ways.”

I will say that this is not my favourite of Comme des garcons’ perfumes . It is quite an strong aroma and it is pretty intense from the start throughout the time I am wearing it. It is strongly incense and it must be the crushed artemisia that I can smell so much. The black pepper is also there which I like but the cardamom, cinnamon and amber are very much in the back ground. It is kind of like very, very strong coriander – that slightly bitter , squashed insect aroma. It does settle a little after around quarter of hour and then the othe notes are allowed to come through more.

black-pepper

This is very much a spicy,herbal scent and there is not much sweet creaminess at all which personally I think it would benefit from as it is bitter and quite sharp I think.

It is once again marketed as a unisex perfume but that would depend on your tastes however I think this is one to appeal more to males than females. It is clean and strong but a bit t sharp and bitter for me.

Interestingly despite the fact it is really intense when first applied the sillage and longevity of this is very average. I don’t fill the room with the scent when I have worn it and it lasts around three to four hours on my skin fading quickly after the first hour or so. It lasts much longer on any clothes that have coe into contact when I spray it on my pulse points.

Comme des garcon use incense and spicy notes as the base for most of their scents and they don’t go for the sweet, vanilla aroma at all but personally I prefer their woodier scents to the ‘fresher’ ones in the ‘Blue ‘ range.

*(*(*(**** BUYING THIS *****)*)*)*)

Ths is only available in one size and only as an eau de parfum in 100ml bottle. It is far from a cheap option and prices do vary considerably. As it is quite an unusual aroma I would strongly suggest you buy a sample or try and get hold of one before buying a full sized version.

You can buy this on line from Comme des garcon itself for £80 or Escentual for £70.55, from FragranceX.com for £93.77. I have seen this for as little as £50 on line so do check before buying. We have small classy little shop in Derby that has their range but otherwise you are looking at Selfridges, Harrods, Harvey Nichs and larger department stores such as House of Fraser and maybe even some Debenhams to buy Comme des garcon products.cinnamon

You can also try Ebay for both full sized and samples. I do buy samples through Ebay in bulk lots and they give me a good range to try but it is always a risk buying on ebay.

*(*(*(**** RECOMMENDED ? *****)*)*)*)

Personally I wouldn’t pay for a full sized one of this scent as there are ones I much prefer in Comme des garcon’s range as well as other perfume houses. I am glad I got a few samples so I could try it out but it is not one I will be rushing to buy again. I think it is always worth trying any scents even if others have reviewed them negatively as scent is a very personal thing and what one person loves another may find really isn’t their taste at all. This is not horrible at all and I am happy to wear it but I just doesn’t really draw me to it and make me want to choose this over the rest of my collection.
